Budgeting for Your Tennis Court Project

We are excited that you are interested in building a new tennis court! Building a new tennis court in south Florida will cost anywhere from $28,000 to $80,000 or more. Several factors will influence the overall cost of the court and should be considered when budgeting for your tennis court project, including:

Site Preparation

Fast-Dry Courts, Inc., as a tennis court contractor, will build your tennis court on a properly prepared subgrade. Needless to say, your land probably does not meet this standard as-is. This means that you will need to contract with somebody to get your site ready for the court construction. The existing site conditions will play a large role in how expensive this part of the project becomes. Adverse conditions (uneven, swampy or rocky land) will drive up the cost of the project.

Court Type

The type of court you decide to build will play a large role in the initial installation cost and continuing maintenance. In general, you will need to choose between a hard court (asphalt/concrete/cushioned) and a soft court (Har-Tru/HydroCourt/ClayTech). Har-Tru and HydroCourts are generally cheaper to install but require more annual maintenance. Hard courts are generally more expensive to install initially, require little maintenance in the short-medium term, and then require costly repairs in the long-term. ClayTech courts combine the benefits of playing on a Har-Tru court with the maintenance benefits of owning a hard court. However, ClayTech courts cost significantly more to install than Har-Tru or Hard courts.

Tennis Court Amenities

Most tennis players appreciate several "add-on" tennis court amenities. If you choose to add these items to your tennis court project, it will add to the overall cost. Amenities you should consider adding to your tennis court include:

  • Lighting
  • Cabanas/Shade Structures
  • Water fountains/coolers
  • Backboards
  • Windscreens

Maintenance Equipment

Maintenance equipment will be required for Har-Tru, HydroCourt and ClayTech courts. These costs should also be considered when budgeting for your new court. The following should be added to the construction contract or purchased shortly after construction is completed:

  • Power/Tow/Hand Roller (for Har-Tru & HydroCourt)
  • Drag Broom (for Har-Tru & HydroCourt)
  • Line Sweeper (for Har-Tru & HydroCourt)
  • Lute/Scarifier (for Har-Tru & HydroCourt)
  • Line Scrub (Har-Tru or HydroCourt)
  • Court Rake or Court Devil (for HydroCourt)
  • Water Remover (for asphalt/concrete/cushioned hard courts)

Player Amenities

The following player amenities, while minor in cost, will make for a much more "player-friendly" tennis court:

  • Tidi-Court court organizer
  • Shoe Cleaner (Har-Tru or HydroCourt)
  • Court benches
  • Score keeper unit
